BLESSING-OPENING OF THE EVANGELIZING EXHIBIT AT THE CHAPEL-SHRINE OF THE HOLY SOULS IN MANILA CATHEDRAL.

MESSAGE

PWHS: Keeping the centuries-old devotion alive.

It must have been providential that the Prayer Warriors of the Holy Souls (PWHS) has found the start of their journey of caring for the souls in purgatory in the Manila Cathedral's chapel designated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory years ago in 2000. They may not be aware of it but God may have chosen their group to continue the devotion to the holy souls in purgatory which has been in practice in the Manila Cathedral for centuries starting perhaps in 1641 based on earliest available records.

Thanks to His Eminence, Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, for his endorsement of the said chapel at the Manila Cathedral for the use of PWHS, especially for the venue of their mass every second Monday of the month. With this turn of events, PWHS has been keeping alive the devotion to the holy souls in purgatory, which has been there in the Manila Cathedral for centuries.

Consequently, there may not be that need to convert the Manila Cathedral - Basilica's present chapel for the Holy Souls in purgatory into Chapel-Shrine since for centuries there has been already a Chapel-Shrine de facto where the devotion to the holy souls in purgatory has been observed in the Manila Cathedral for hundreds of years. Thanks to PWHS for what was there many years ago has been continued to the present. The devotion lives on.

Finally, we are happy to note that PWHS has risen from just at the worship aspect and comes to the education or evangelizing aspect of their ministry through sponsoring the evangelizing exhibit at the very Chapel-Shrine of Holy Souls of the Manila Cathedral-Basilica. Many will surely get informed and formed in this aspect of our Catholic faith.

PWHS has risen as well to the temporalities aspect of their ministry by helping in the major repairs of the Chapel-Shrine through the waterproofing of its roof deck and repainting of its ceiling. PWHS has indeed grown in the scope of their ministry and we hope their ministry will continue to broaden in the Manila Cathedral through social services, especially for the youth.
